What Is the San Juan Skyway?

The San Juan Skyway is a continuous 236-mile loop through some of the most geologically and culturally diverse terrain in the American West. It connects high mountain passes, historic mining towns, ancient cultural landscapes, and protected wilderness across southwestern Colorado.

Beginning in Ridgway, the route moves through Ouray and climbs the dramatic Million Dollar Highway before reaching Silverton. From there it descends toward Durango and continues west through Mancos and the Mesa Verde region, before looping through Cortez, the Four Corners, Telluride, and returning to Ridgway.

Across its span, the Skyway links alpine tundra, canyon systems, desert mesas, and historic mountain towns into a single continuous journey through layered geography and history.
