The Uncompahgre River Walk

Know Before You Go

The Uncompahgre River Walk Loop, also known as the North Ouray Corridor, is a pleasant two-mile loop along the Uncompahgre River north of the Ouray Hot Springs Pool. This path is mostly level, following the gradient of the river. On one side of the valley is Gold Hill with many old mine buildings visible high above the trail. Waterfalls can be seen, too. There are benches and fitness stations along the trail. The Uncompahgre River Walk can be accessed from the Hot Springs Pool parking lot, Chautauqua Lane (across from Rotary Park), or Uncompahgre Street. Dogs are allowed on leash. In the winter this trail is groomed by the Ouray County Nordic Council for cross-country skiing.

The Uncompahgre River Restoration Project Revitalized

In 2025, the City of Ouray partnered with local organizations including Colorado West Land Trust, Uncompahgre Watershed Partnership, the Ute Indian Museum, the Ouray Historical Society, and the Ouray Trail Group to replace the interpretive signs along the trail. This ongoing partnership builds on the legacy of the Uncompahgre River Restoration project that began in the 1990’s with the goal of cleaning up the river. At the time, the multiple sediment-clogged channels were littered with old cars, mining equipment, and even washing machines! Now, the river walk is a greenway of native trees, shrubs and grasses that stabilize the riverbank, provide wildlife habitat, and create shade for all who enjoy the trail.

The new interpretive signs are the product of community collaboration. Learn more about the local organizations that participated in the re-design:
